CSI Vet Tech Dog Wash – Apr. 14

Veterinary Technology students at the College of Southern Idaho will hold their annual fundraising Dog Wash at the Vet Tech program lab in downtown Twin Falls on Saturday, Apr. 14 The popular event is used to raise money for the CSI Vet Tech program and student activities. For $15, students will wash and towel dry small to average-sized dogs. Ear cleaning and nail trimming will be $20. Large dogs will be $20 and $25. No appointment is necessary. Students will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pet owners are asked to bring their dogs on leashes. Anyone who brings a clean, used towel to donate to the program will receive a dollar off their dog wash. The event will be held at A Pet’s Place at 260 Second Ave. S. in Twin Falls, which is the Vet Tech student clinic. For more information, contact the CSI Ag Office at 732-6401.
Scottish Highland Games – Apr. 14

Fourth annual Scottish Highland Games and Diversity Faire, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. APRIL 14 in the field near College of Southern Idaho’s Desert building. Presented by CSI’s Highland Culture Club and CSI Diversity Council and Program Board. The games, organized by Eastern Oregon Throwers and Black Sheep Elite, are open to men and women. Game competitions include hammer or stone throws or caber tossing; entry fee is $25 per throwing event. Stones and hammers weigh 8-12 pounds for women or 16-22 pounds for men; competitors toss the weights over an overhead crossbar at various heights. In the sheaf toss, competitors use a pitchfork to fling a 12-20 pound weighted burlap bag over a crossbar, and in caber toss, a thrower must balance the pole upright in his hands until it’s into the air, making it pass through one vertical revolution and land with the handheld end pointing away from the thrower). New this year is Excalibur Sword Pull, which is open to spectators and game competitors with prizes awarded. Music and dance performances include Irish Dance Idaho from Boise, Teton and District Performing Arts Pipe Band, Native American flute player Ralph Montes, and Magic Valley Irish Dancers. The event includes a raffle with prizes, vendor booths and snacks. Admission is $1 per person. Children under 10 admitted free. During the games, CSI Welding Department’s annual spring auction is 1 p.m. in the Desert building and CSI Renewable Energy Club’s mobile trailer is open .

Come help us celebrate Jaime’s 6th studio release! Jaime would like to thank the Magic Valley for supporting her over the years by offering a free concert and party. It will be a fun-filled evening with friends as Jaime shares songs from her new CD as well as some of her career favorites from the past 13 years. The 20th annual Epicurean Evening fundraiser, presented by St. Luke’s Magic Valley Health Foundation, 5:30 p.m. April 13th at Canyon Crest Dining and Event Center, 330 Canyon Crest Drive. Baxter Black at CSI – Apr. 11

Cowboy poet Baxter Black, 7 p.m. April 11 at the College of Southern Idaho’s Fine Arts Auditorium. Black has written several books including a cowboy novel and its sequel and recorded more than a dozen audio and video CDs and DVDs. He has achieved widespread recognition as a newspaper columnist, radio and television commentator and has appeared on the Tonight Show and on PBS and NPR. Black was a veterinarian and worked on ranches in the West before he became a cowboy poet. Presented by CSI Equine Club; proceeds benefit club activities and education. Advance tickets are $15 at Vickers Western Store in Twin Falls, Valley Country Store in Buhl, Shoe and Tack Shop in Jerome, or at CSI Evergreen building’s agriculture office. Tickets are $20.at the door. FFA students wearing their jackets admitted for $10.
