Magic Valley Arts Council presents the first of a series of Jazz Club dinner and music events, featuring Fox-Jensen Jazz Band, 7-10 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Twin Falls Center for the Arts, 195 River Vista Place, Suite 101. Door opens at 6:30 p.m. Band members are Jesse Hadley on piano, Adam Crofts on bass, Michael Frew on guitar, Brent Jensen on sax, Jeff Fox on sax and Alex Doetsch on drums. The Castleford Men’s Club is holding its annual fund raising auction Jan 28, in the Castleford High School Cafeteria at 10 a.m. The Castleford Men’s Club supports community events especially involving youth. Having been formed in the 1940′s, the club sponsors a scholarship fund, 4-H, PTYO, Youth Sports, all school groups, and recently built the Castleford Community building. All the groups supported and members of the club (not all men), would appreciate your support for the lone fund raising event for the service club.

Magic Valley Arts Council and Art Guild of Magic Valley will hold an event for the launch of Art and Soul of Magic Valley, 1-3 p.m. Jan. 28 at Twin Falls Center for the Arts, 195 River Vista Place, Suite 101, announcing the start of recruitment for artists, artist sponsors and exhibit venues. The event includes a painting demonstration by Robert Moore, grand prize winner of the 2011 Art and Soul of Magic Valley. The art contest, with total cash prizes of $30,000, is open to any and all artists. The public votes on the art and decides the prize winners. The Mt Harrison Heritage Foundation’s production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” which opens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at the King Fine Arts Center. The play will show Jan. 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, at 7:30 p.m. and on Jan 28, at 2 p.m.
Sarah Condie stars as Maria. She is governess to the Von Trapp children, who are: Lauren Cook, as Gretl, Brigham Bodily as Marta, Caden Seely, who is Kurt, Ceci Faux, as Luisa, Cody Hansen as Frederich, and Kyrstin Tindall as Leisel. Burton Anderson stars as Captain Von Trapp, with Megi Jones as Baroness Schrader. The Mother Superior is played by Barbara Sorensen, with MaKyla Barras, Kayla Lloyd, and Donn Peacock as some of the nuns. Michael James is Max and Casey Tindall is Rolf.
